Recessed fixing solution for frameless glass shower installations

Glasstrends Limited, the independent frameless glass shower manufacturer, has recently completed the design, supply and installation of 6 bespoke frameless shower enclosures and a steam room, at a central London townhouse in the city of Westminster.
Interior design company Finchatton, was appointed to the project and specified frameless glass to be used in the bathrooms. However, the project specification also required the shower enclosure panels to have recessed fixings.
Main project contractors, Rigby & Rigby, approached Glasstrends to undertake the design, supply and installation of the 6 shower enclosures because of their expertise in working with frameless glass and the challenging fixing specification.
After several site visits and meetings to discuss the project, the perimeter of the glass was slotted into recesses to hide the fixing method after the tile and stonework had been completed.
Managing Director, Andrew Long commented: We are delighted to have been involved with the renovation of this stylish property in Westminster. Our products offer the end-user the highest quality, modern facilities. All of the shower enclosures installed were manufactured from ultra clear low iron glass to lose the green hue of standard 10mm clear glass. This ensures the finished product is both stylish and functional.’

Bespoke Shower Systems

A specially designed unique shower in a bathroom can turn an ordinary bathroom into an award winning one. The wow factor from a bespoke shower area that is beautiful to look at and functional will always be a winner with the client.

There are several factors require from a really good custom shower supplier to achieve this goal with confidence.

Unique design
The ability of the supplier to deliver a unique design to fit a unique space is essential. This is where glass comes into its own as with modern techniques it can be moulded into almost any shape. Curved glass especially produces a slick surface that is always pleasing to the eye and ideal for a shower.

The use of mirrors and mirrored doors within a shower space can improve privacy and increase the feeling of space. Acid etching techniques can also be used to add a unique twist to any shower enclosure.

Measure and Design

In unusual spaces the ability of the supplier to measure very accurately and to visualise the resulting usable space is essential. Precision fitting of well engineered hinges and supports will also add an extra level of quality to the final installation.

Fixtures and Fittings

The shower enclosure supplier must me be in touch with a wide range of fixture suppliers so that the designer or specifier can pick the combination that required to meet the clients objectives. Avoiding the mass produced (read, lower quality!) fittings available in the mainstream retail market sets a custom designed shower aside form from standard shower systems.

Good working relationship.

The best shower enclosure suppliers have a good close working relationship with the designer and with other contractors involved in the whole process of designing, specifying and building a bathroom. They will be able to liaise with other craftsmen on behalf of the client making the whole installation easy and smooth. This especially applies to the suppliers of flooring, plumbing and electrics.

The flooring needs to be strong enough to support what could be a heavy installation and of the right quality to complement the shower enclosure itself; plumbing needs to be able to deliver the required water flow; the electrics will ensure the right mood lighting is in place. Key skills will be proved by the supplier themselves to ensure the best installation and finish possible.

Glasstrends of London have years of experience in fitting out large hotels (Hilton and Carlton) across the UK, often designed by world renown architects. Each hotel room need not have exactly the same dimensions, and so will have custom shower doors adding a unique individuality and luxury.

Custom Shower Doors

A good shower door or enclosure will be tailored to individual requirements and the space it needs to fit. They offer great top quality style, elegance and privacy. Modern sophisticated fixtures and fittings can give complete freedom of design. The great clean lines of a shower in your bathroom can add that fantastic finishing touch.

Greatest care needs to be taken when measuring, designing and fitting your shower door to ensure and clean line and efficient enclosure. Don’t forget to consider the dam height (the distance off the floor before the door starts) when measuring up.

You need to think about if your shower door is to open inwards or outwards. This usually depends on the ergonomics of the space you are working with. Visualise how your shower will work when you are using it and how the door will move within the space. An inward opening door means less water will get into the bathroom but can be awkward.

An alternative to a door, where there is room, is to have in line and square enclosures with no door at all. These are more suitable in a wet room environment.

All custom shower doors should be made from toughened safety glass and with high quality fittings that will not rust or tarnish. The great advantage of glass shower doors is the wide range of finish effect that is available from clear, etched or tinted glass and sandblasted.

Glasstrends units are individually made to order and can be cut to any size or shape to fit, so they can fit slopping roof shapes. Applications include hinged doors, in line and square enclosures, bath and wet room screens to any size or shape.
